It also takes a patient person and someone who can follow simple directions – lol. I probably use it only a handful of times throughout the year as it’s tricky to use – in terms of having a steady handed person moving the Pixelstick. If you love shooting at night as much as I do the Pixelstick is a cool toy to have in your bag of tricks. According to the bike share app – Justin and I covered 80 miles! Earlier in the day we rented bikes and looked for the perfect spots. It also helps to scout out locations beforehand so you’re more efficient with your time. It also helps to have a flat surface as if it’s uneven the image will be wobbly because the person walking with the Pixelstick will have a hard time walking straight. Ideally you want it to be dark behind the image, if not it’ll get lost with the brightness (as in the Street Fighter image in the video).

Pre focus and then set the camera to manual focus.
Put something on the floor so the person holding the Pixelstick can start at the same spot every time.
#Pixelstick creative iso#
Chose a low iso and as for the aperture decide how bright or dark you want the image to be and adjust accordingly. So if an image is 6 seconds, I’ll use an 8 second shutter speed. Set a shutter speed and add a few seconds.Do a countdown as to how long the image takes to play.IMO, leave it well alone untill its been re-engineered or a better alternative is released by another manufacturer. The cool thing about the Pixelstick is that you can load any image you want! As for the process: There are much, much cheaper alternatives out there that can be home made and still produce some great night photography. The lenses are also made of hard plastic that cracks extremely easily. Treat it like its made of the finest Bone China. The Pixel stick was a one of a kind for a very long time, but about a year ago, a similar contraption. When it was launched, there was nothing quite like it in the market, and it made 600,000 on Kickstarter, which was very impressive for the time. These sometimes pull loose and then the stick stops firing. It is a light painting tool that can paint images in the air based on jpgs. The battery pack and module are linked with push in fittings that are also very poor. The 2 main aluminium bodies are clamped together with this bracket that holds them together. It's assembled in kit form and all screws together in a pretty poor way. Its a good pit of kit but it needs MUCH more development in the build.
#Pixelstick creative cracked#
It must have cracked one of many soldered connections on the LED strips that push together. I checked every single wired connection multiple times but it was dead. However, when I was putting it in the boot to go to a shoot, it knocked very gently against a ladder in my car and that was the end of that. Quite complex and interface is not amazing.
